How many Days until we Sail-Away?
The counter on our opening page runs in Java-Script and logs
the days until Thursday April 17th 2003
- When we officially quit our jobs (an Easter weekend) We
will be leaving for Europe very soon after, to
start our big adventure!
Several people have asked for more information about "Our
Plans". With such a long-term and life changing concept; the
plans have changed quite a lot over time. In the years since
we first discussed the idea, our own circumstances have moved
on; with each step "the plans" have been modified; honed, and
several times whole chunks have been scrapped and/or
replaced, here goes:-
The Early Plans:-
- 1998 - 1999 Planting the
seeds and asking around for like-minded people's
advice
2000:-
- Early 2000 Gaining lots of sailing experience, our
meetings with Vyv & Jill, Simon & Karen, Andrew
Bebbington and Lynette.
- Late 2000 The Sell up and Sail Away Bar-B-Q at 103 Gore
Road
2001:-
- January to July 2001 Our
meeting with Bill & Laurel Cooper - Decisions - Should
we sell Kahawi?
- August 2001 An unusual
birthday event ! (nothing to do with boating,
but tremendous fun!)
- September
11th 2001 Investing our
savings - NOT a good day to invest on the
stock market?
2002:-
- February 2002 - Extending the
house - How can we make money in a poor financial
environment
(We thought this a really good idea at the
time; subsequently scrapped - Read why here)
- March/April 2002 - Ula's
little MGF car and our boat go on sale; Our Daughter
Deborah announces that She is leaving home - possibly for
good.
- April/May 2002 - The MGF is
sold, Deborah departs for a "short" holiday, Colin has a
"downer day"
- May/June 2002- Ula is rushed
to Hospital - The House goes on sale
- August 9th - We
were due to move out, survey a
boat and intended starting our life
afloat
- August
15th - The big day
actually arrives, we are officially Homeless
bag-persons!
- September
19th - Kahawi's sale is
completed - Simba applies for his Pet Passport - We
finally buy our "Dream Boat"
- December
23rd - We should be
residents in our new flat - We should be owners of
a boat by now?
