Extending the House

Trying to make some money in a low interest market

We have submitted our proposed house extension for "Pre-Planning Approval" by the local Council.
We also met up with Alan and his chum Dave. He and I mulled over the extension drawings, while Urszula and Alan discussed gardening, cooking etc.

Dave did lots of calculating and came up with some interesting "problems" concerning the roof, which I hadn't foreseen, he also found a clever way of solving the issue of how to hold up the house over the span of our garage, whilst still keeping enough room in there to park a car. An evening well spent, in good company! (You see Alan, there is no such thing as a free lunch!)

So far, things are looking very good!

We submitted our plans to the Council with a covering letter, asking for clarification on several points that we were unsure of. They could not have been more accommodating to us.
Ula phoned after a week or so, to ask how things were progressing, the gentleman she spoke to, ran through all the items there and then, over the phone and has subsequently followed this up with a letter (not formal approval, of course, just his opinion) wherein he has more-or-less allowed us the full spec, as we have designed it!

We are most pleased about this. The idea is to put in as much as you possibly can, then remove some items if needed. We had added an upper-floor balcony to the rear of the master bedroom, there are clear directives about overlooking the neighbours garden/property here. Our "Man from the Council" seemed quite happy though, as we are not really going to overlook any part of their house, as such. Along with the returned plans and their covering letter came the necessary forms for full planning submission, so here we go!

Next step, discussions with our builder and his roofing man, watch this space.....!
